This beautiful Guan Yin was lovingly and harmoniously handcrafted by a Balinese carver from one piece of solid, colour-grained crocodile wood. Our partner in Bali, Wajan, refines the hand-carved figures with paint. He selects the best Buddhas and refines them with traditional Balinese motifs by hand.
When selecting the Buddha figures we offer, attention is paid to a charismatic aura and a high quality of this craftsmanship. Special emphasis is placed on the meditative, balanced charisma.
Handmade with attention to detail, this Guan Yin is a unique piece and a unique work of art.
Crocodile:
Crocodile wood is a light-colored wood that is ideal for making sculptures. Not very hard and robust, rather soft, with beautiful exotic grain. The tree gets its name from its external appearance, the gnarled spinous processes are reminiscent of crocodile teeth or the skin of a crocodile. It is said that locals are regularly frightened by a piece of crocodile wood floating in the river, as they mistake it for a crocodile. Because of the light color, it is also called the “ivory of woods”.
Guan Yin:
Guan Yin is a Buddha usually depicted as a woman. Out of modesty, she calls herself a Bodhisattva (one step below a Buddha in the Buddhist hierarchy).
Guan Yin is revered not only in Buddhism, but also in many other East Asian traditions and countries as the embodiment of compassion, mercy and protective love. Translated, its name means “who perceives the weeping and suffering of men”. Guan Yin can manifest itself in all conceivable shapes and forms and is always there where a being needs its help.

Wood is a natural product that always “works”. It reacts not only to temperature fluctuations but also to humidity fluctuations. Unevenness, cracks and dimensional and pattern deviations can occur on the object.
